The Power Service - Newcastle

In our free consultation we can signpost the way to compliance with the regulations and provide our clients with the necessary Health and Safety information.

All places of work contain a variety of electrical appliances that are portable, movable, handheld, stationary or fixed. The regulations make clear that there is a requirement to inspect and test all types of electrical equipment in all work situations.
The recommended testing and inspection frequency varies depending on the type of equipment and the environment in which it is used. Frequencies can range from 3 months up to 48 months, but many choose every 12 months as a reasonable testing and inspection regime.

You can be sure that the breakdown of electrical appliances will be dangerous and could even be fatal. Without a certificate of testing you run the risk not only of invalidating your commercial insurance policy, but also of prosecution - click here for Prosecutions

The Power Service offers a Portable Appliance Testing, or PAT testing service in Newcastle and surrounding areas to ensure that our clients comply with current regulations.

We employ only fully trained competent engineers using calibrated testing equipment and we have full liability insurance.
Our inspection involves examination of the plug top, the lead and the casing of the equipment. The plug top is checked for the correct fuse size, adequate cord grip, correct polarity and tightness of terminations, cracking, heat damage and a plug with insulating pins conforming to current BS standards.

The casing of equipment is checked for any visual damage or cracks and any holes or vents that are apparent must not have a radius greater than 6mm. Also there must not be any live parts within 80mm of the aperture. Without passing an initial inspection, no appliance can be passed as safe.

The Power Service can provide the following :

  • A free consultation on PAT testing and the route to compliance
  • Testing and Inspection of electrical appliances
  • Labelling and Inventory of electrical appliances
  • Reports and Certificates for passed and failed items
